Anesthesia Options

Your Comfort Is Our Priority

At Alfi Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery it is our goal to ensure patients feel as comfortable and relaxed as possible while in our care.

Types of Anesthesia

There are a variety of anesthesia and sedation options available at our practice.

  • Local anesthesia is an injection delivered to the surgical site to numb the area. You will remain comfortable during the procedure, and the numbness will wear off after a couple of hours. This option can be combined with other forms of anesthesia.

  • Nitrous oxide, also known as laughing gas, nitrous oxide is a mild sedative that is inhaled through a mask worn over the mouth and nose. The effects of the gas safely manage anxiety and discomfort during dental procedures to help patients feel relaxed.

  • IV sedation is administered through the arm or hand and delivers medication that puts patients quickly into a sleep-like state. You will be able to respond to questions but will not be consciously aware. An adult must drive you home after surgery if IV sedation is selected.

  • General anesthesia is reserved for complex procedures such as jaw surgery or facial trauma, general anesthesia renders you totally unconscious. It is often administered in a hospital or surgical center, and an adult must drive you home afterward.
