About Dr. Carrillo

Dr. Carrillo pursued a career in oral surgery because this specialty combines the best of dentistry and medicine. As an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, he can treat the mouth, face, and jaws functionally and aesthetically while transforming peoples’ lives.

Dr. Carrillo completed the second year of his fellowship at Alfi Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery and, after feeling a special connection with this practice, he joined the team in 2022. He enjoys being surrounded by great people in a positive work environment and collaborating with other professionals who share the same vision for the future.

When working with patients who are nervous, Dr. Carrillo listens, educates, and guides them through the whole journey and all its phases. He finds that clarity, availability, and support helps others feel comfortable and wants every patient to have a pleasant surgical experience.

Dr. Carrillo practices the full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with special interest in corrective jaw surgery, sleep apnea surgery, facial cosmetic surgery, dental and facial implants, IV sedation/anesthesia, and dentoalveolar surgery.

Education & Residency

Dr. Carrillo received his DDS from the UANL School of Dentistry in Mexico, where he graduated with honors at the top of his class. He completed two years of internship in oral and maxillofacial surgery at UANL Metropolitan Hospital and at the University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus, where he subsequently completed a comprehensive four-year oral and maxillofacial residency program in combination with an additional three-year research program that earned him his MS in dentistry.

He further completed two years of fellowship training. The first year focused on facial cosmetic surgery at FACES Surgery: Center for Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery in León, Mexico. The second year focused on advanced orthognathic, facial reconstructive, and pediatric oral and maxillofacial surgery at Alfi Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery in Houston, TX, at the Texas Medical Center.

Certifications

Dr. Carrillo is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS) and an active member of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) and American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery (AACS). He’s also an active certified provider of Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and Basic Life Support.

Hobbies and Interests

Dr. Carrillo enjoys spending time with his family, wife, and daughter. He’s passionate about learning new things, improving his cooking skills, reading, traveling, and playing guitar. Two fun facts about him are: he used to be a professional guitar player before he was an oral surgeon, and he cooks ceviche and Mexican tacos that are simply irresistible.
