Immediate Dental Implants

The total treatment time for a conventional implant can take anywhere from several months to over a year, which includes the surgical procedure, healing process, and placing the crown. New advancements in dental implant technology allow us to place dental implants immediately following tooth extraction, providing patients with new, healthy teeth in just 1 day.

At Alfi Oral, Dental Implant & Facial Surgery, we offer immediate dental implants to patients undergoing tooth extraction to restore missing teeth. If you need a tooth extracted or wish to explore your restoration options, such as dental implants, contact our practice in Houston, TX, today. Dr. Alfi will explain all of your options and help you choose the right treatment for your oral health.

Why Replace a Missing Tooth?

Teeth are important for biting, chewing, speaking, and maintaining a healthy jaw. Teeth roots are embedded in the jaw bone and as you chew, these roots stimulate the surrounding bone to keep it strong. When teeth are missing, the jaw bone does not receive the stimulation it needs to stay healthy and will deteriorate over time.

Jaw bone atrophy can cause facial features to sag or other teeth to shift out of alignment. Even if you have been missing a tooth for many years, restoring it with a dental implant will improve your oral health and help you regain confidence in your smile.

Dental Implants After Tooth Extraction

You have several options to consider for restoring a missing tooth. Dr. Alfi will walk you through these options and examine your oral health to see if you qualify for same-day dental implants. Immediate implants function just like traditional implants, providing you with all the same health and aesthetic benefits.

Dental implants are the ideal solution for replacing missing teeth for many reasons:

  • They prevent bone loss, preserve your facial structure, and benefit your long-term oral health.
  • You can receive a single implant or a new arch of teeth supported by multiple implants.
  • No special care is necessary—simply brush and floss your implants along with your other teeth.
  • Every crown is custom-made, and your implanted teeth will look and feel like natural teeth.
  • When placed by an oral surgery expert, dental implants have a high success rate and can last a lifetime with proper care.

In addition to placing single tooth implants, immediate implants make it possible for us to restore an entire arch of teeth in just 1 hour. During full-arch restoration, also known as Teeth-in-an-Hour, we will insert as few as four dental implants in the upper or lower arch, then attach a fixed denture. Full-arch restoration is ideal for patients missing most or all of their teeth, or who currently wear dentures and are looking for a healthier, more convenient alternative.

Tooth Extraction & Immediate Implant Placement

If you choose to replace your tooth with an immediate implant, we will extract the tooth and place a dental implant in the same visit. This eliminates the need for a separate implant procedure and prevents the need for you to go without a tooth. There is also no waiting period for the extraction socket to heal. Instead, you can receive your new tooth on the same day as the extraction and leave our office with a complete smile.

Local anesthesia is often used for this procedure, which will numb the surgical area, although we offer many anesthesia options to choose from. If the jaw has deteriorated, we may insert a bone graft to rebuild the jaw following tooth extraction. Once the bone graft has healed, you can return to have the dental implant placed.

After the area is numb, your surgeon will extract the tooth and insert a dental implant post into the empty tooth socket. We may attach a temporary crown or the permanent crown to the post. If we place a temporary crown, you will see your restorative dentist after the implant has healed to receive your permanent crown.
